Stafford Rambling Group is a voluntary walking group of about 100 members which is affiated
to the Ramblers Association.
We are an active group with a programme of weekly walk, which mostly take place on
Sundays, usually alternating between morning and all day walks.
Morning walks are approximately 5 miles and take place within 20 miles radius of Stafford.
All day walks are usually 10 to 12 miles, but we do occasionally try something more ambitious
when we go further afield, particularly in the Summer months.
We like to think that we are a friendly crowd and there is no great formality about joining in a
walk. You do not have to contact the leader in advance, just turn up at the right time at the
meeting point which is Castle Hill Car Park, Stafford (behind Stafford College next to Broadeye
Windmill).
Don’t worry if you do not have a car. We encourage car sharing and there is no great difficulty
about getting a lift. Drivers’ may ask passengers to share the cost, which we suggest is
calculated at 20p per mile and shared by all in the car, including the driver.
What do you need to take with you on a walk? Click here for more information.
We organise some events where booking is usually necessary, including, two weekend away
each year (one around Easter and the other in October). A Christmas meal, at least one
coach ramble a year and a dinner ramble, when we have a meal together after the walk.
In time we would hope you will lead walks. We have a library of maps that you can borrow to
help in planning these.
